Internships are a great option for students looking to gain experience in public archaeology. Students wishing to gain skills in archaeological programming, education, fundraising, evaluation, and outreach would benefit from interning with AITC. AITC is happy to accommodate individual interests and schedules, and specific time frames, tasks and goals are collaboratively created for mutual benefit. Internships are unpaid, but can be used to fulfill university requirements for credit.

Program Intern
AITC is seeking a Program intern to assist with the development and delivery of K-12 and Family Programs and resources. This includes expanding materials for current K-12 and Family Programs as well as contributing to the development of new programs. The intern will synthesize content and create learning tools and activities to supplement current programs. Additionally, the intern will teach and/ or facilitate programs according to the program schedule.
Program Intern Duties and Responsibilities: The intern will help assess and expand K-12 and Family Programs and resources and teach programs. Responsibilities include assisting with program design and preparation, communicating with participations, event coordination, research, writing, and collaborating with various staff to build content and activities. The intern should expect to work 2 days per week for 4 months. Some Saturday work may be required

Education Intern
AITC is looking for an Archaeology Education intern this position is open to full-time undergraduate students, full-timegraduate students, and recent graduates. The purpose of the internship program is to offer students and recent graduates meaningful work, educational experiences, and real-life practice in their field of academic study and/or interest.
AITC utilizes a hands-on, creative approach to all our work with students and we are committed to ensuring diversity,equity, accessibility, and inclusion (DEAI) are central to all our educational initiatives. The Education team provides audiences of all ages with opportunities to engage with the archaeology. The Education team focuses on developing programs and resources for PK-12 audiences. Our school and teacher programs bring archaeology into classrooms across the Mid- Atlantic and nationally. The intern should expect to work 2 days per week for 4 months.

Education Intern Duties and Responsibilities:
- Supporting the AITC’s education initiatives, including school and teacher programs, community educationprograms; and the production and distribution of educational resources.
- Observing and assisting with school programs, including observing and preparing for classroom visits(virtual and in-person), data collection, and evaluation.
- Conducting research on archaeology projects, archaeology programs, and teaching methods for the development of PK-12 initiatives and teacher programs.
- Preparing and maintaining supplies and materials for workshops and virtual programs.
- Performing additional tasks as assigned.
Education Intern Requirements and Qualifications:
- Interest in archaeology, history and education.
- Ability to work in -person and virtually. Most of the work for the internship will take place online due to currentCOVID restrictions
- Experience working with PK-12 audiences.
- Excellent problem-solving skills.
- Flexible and highly effective team member and collaborator with strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- A professional presence demonstrating flexibility and patience while upholding institutional policies and procedures.
- Strong time management skills.

Communications and Social Media Intern
AITC is looking for a creative Communications and Social Media intern to join our team. The Social Media Intern willbe responsible for creating social media posts and assisting the team with brainstorming campaigns.
To be successful as a CSM intern, you must have excellent knowledge of the various social media platforms that we employ at AITC (currently: Hootsuite, Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, and Twitter). We also expect you to have a basicunderstanding of current affairs and a good overview in the field of archaeology. A good CSM intern will combine creative campaign ideas with analytical skills to create successful but accurate posts and to ensure that the reputation of AITC is upheld. We expect the intern to dedicate a minimum of 10 hours per week for a minimum of 4 months to their role with AITC.

- A graduate student with a degree in Communication, Marketing, Archaeology or a related field.
- Excellent knowledge of social media platforms.
- Very good command of English, both written and spoken.
- Prior experience in marketing or social media.
- Knowledge of analytical tools.
- Creative mindset.
- Flexibility and adaptability to the amount of work that varies from day-to-day.
- Ability to work both individually and in a team.
CSM Intern Preferred:
- Skills in Photoshop, photo editing and video editing
Volunteer Coordinator
Overview
The Volunteer Coordinator plays an integral role to expanding programming for Archaeology in the Community. Expanding a local volunteer base is important to bring awareness to the organization and engage social science students in the field of archaeology. The Volunteer Coordinator will assure there is an adequate staffing for the programs and students are getting hands-on experience in the field of archaeology and community outreach. Managing the volunteer program is a portfolio builder and opportunity to demonstrate individual ownership.

The Volunteer Coordinator must solicit to local colleges and university for social science students to volunteer. The Volunteer Coordinator must also manage all volunteers’ schedules, serve as liaison of Archaeology in the Community and the students’ universities and facilitate the hiring of volunteers. Additionally, the Volunteer Coordinator must assess volunteers’ performance at various events, oversea the entire volunteer program and create ways to expand volunteer program.

The ideal candidate will currently have or pursing a Bachelor’s Degree. The coordinator will be very professional, organized, and possess management skills. Proficiency with Microsoft Excel or other spreadsheet databases is a must. The Volunteer Coordinator must be available to work an average of 10 hours a week. This is an unpaid position.
