Archaeology in the Community (AITC) and the Southeastern Archaeological Conference (SEAC) are working together to address the need for archaeological expertise to assist African American communities to identify historic resources in their communities (including but not limited to cemeteries). This also recognizes the need for African American communities to assist archaeologists with community-specific expertise and knowledge to contribute to a fuller historical understanding of African American historical experiences.
AITC is reaching out to stakeholders of African American Historical Resources who are interested in working with archaeological experts to assist with the recording and/or documenting of their sites. We are partnering with SEAC, which is galvanizing scholars that wish to voluntarily share their knowledge and expertise. The volunteers’ expertise will range in the following type of work: geophysical, genealogical, documentary research, archaeological (survey, excavation, analysis), report-writing, and grant-writing. If you are interested in working with one of these volunteers, please register your site below. If you are interested in being a volunteer archaeological expert, please visit SEAC's website to fill out their form.
